Projector Prices – Some are expensive while some are cheap.

Some of the most important factors that influence projector prices are brightness and weight. The brighter the light of the projector, the more you are likely to pay. There are quite a few reasons for LCD projector lamps to be so expensive. These lamps are very specialized and come with a high cost of production and development. UHP projector lamps are being made out of borosilicate glass and fused quartz, and this whole process requires skilled labor. Quartz is rock hard, and at the same melting point as iron. Steel tools melt before you are able to get the quartz in a workable state. You also need torches using oxygen to get hot enough.

Even if you have the right tools and heat, quartz has a very narrow plastic range of temperature. Although we live in a world of mass-production, many steps in producing these lamps still required skills by craftsmen, and will add to the cost of a mass-produced lamp. Quartz is trickier to work than glass, and glassblowers that are capable of working quartz, will not do it for a minimum wage, which is understandable.

Production machinery that can mass-produce quartz lamps is so expensive that only lamps that will sell in huge quantities (hundreds of thousands) can be made economically by such machinery. Otherwise it would cost even more to get the machines made and set up than it would be to hire those highly skilled glassblowers.

Apart from the lamp, the size and weight of the projector will also influence the projector pricing. Today’s projectors range between under 2 pounds to 75 pounds or more. The biggest grouping of projectors falls between the 6-12 pounds range. Because projectors below 4 pounds are a lot more expensive, many presenters decide on projectors in the 6-12 pounds range.

The weight of a 6-pound projector is similar to the weight of an average laptop. If you are able to carry a laptop in a shoulder bag, you should be able to handle the weight of a 6 pound projector as well. If you are in need of a projector with more than 2500 lumens for brightness or some other features, you might have to look at projectors in the 8-12 pounds range. This will also affect the projector pricing.

If projector pricing is not an issue for you, consider a projector that will meet your lumen needs and has the features you would really like. You might end up with a farley large projector, over 12 pounds, but it will come with all the bells and whistles you could dream off!
