Each player at the table is dealt 2 cards face down. These are known as your pocket cards. The pre-flop is where the betting begins. The player to the left of the two who posted the blinds starts. The amount any player can bet depends on what type of betting structure is being used. For example if you are playing a $5/$10 fixed limit game that means the amount that can be bet pre-flop is $5.At this point players will call, raise or fold. To call a player matches the previous bet, to raise they add to the previous bet and to fold they with draw from the hand.Once the betting round is finished, the dealer takes the top card from the pile and discards it. This is known as the burn card and is done to prevent cheating. The dealer then takes the next three cards off the top of the deck and lays them face up.
